Handbook

This subject adopts an interdisciplinary approach to studying theories and practices of social justice and social change to address questions about living in a world of inequality. It will investigate how questions of ethics, politics and social justice affect and are affected by diverse forms of knowing, relating and organising for sustainable change. The subject will progress through problem-based inquiry threading broad questions about knowledge, ethics and justice through contemporary problems and issues. Attention will focus on the everyday practices and politics of: respect and recognition; participation and representation; voice and listening; belonging and inclusion; and redistribution. These practices will be investigated in a range of contexts such as ecological and other social movements, community based organisations and international development organisations. Students will explore social justice issues and practices in collaborative contexts involving blogging, peer-to peer presentations and participation in inquiry with social justice organisations.
